"MADE IN AFRICA - FOR AFRICA"

Proudly Presents

A LOCAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

The I SUPPORT AFRICA PROJECT - allowing everyone to participate in Africa's Development!

"HOW CAN I SUPPORT 'MY LOCAL COMMUNITY' DEVELOPMENT?"

Through a PPP(Process of Positive Participation)

We must ALL take hands and become united in her efforts to implement this important
AFRICAN RENEWAL PROGRAMME!
Africa will succeed!

Lets create an investment climate through positive participation - Lets initiate and implement business projects, no matter how insignificant, that would lead to ‘job creation’ (employment opportunities) that would therefore stimulate our local economy and ultimately stimulate Africa's economy - that would lead to prosperity.

THE FOUNDATION FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF AFRICA
provides this 'platform' to allow the "you and I" to participate in this development process and to allow the world to showcase products and/or services that will add value to
(LOCAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT)

and therefore sustainable development!

We prefer the phrase "Lets create wealth" as it 'rings' a more positive message than the "Lets alleviate poverty" approach!

Local economic development is a key to sustainable development – however, sustainable local economic development is dependant upon sufficient local investment and FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) – however, investment is dependant upon service delivery, and service delivery is dependant upon LEADERSHIP and LEADERSHIP is dependant on co-operation!

The
I SUPPORT AFRICA CAMPAIGN
promotes and supports this positive participation co-operation campaign that will lead to an investment climate - this will allow for the identification, initiation and implementation of business projects, no matter how insignificant, that would lead to ‘job creation’ (employment opportunities) that would therefore ultimately stimulate the Africa economy - that would lead to prosperity.

How then can WE participate in OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY's
well being?

First......
we need your commitment.

You are welcome to add your name to the growing list of names - all proclaiming -
"YES ....!
I SUPPORT 'MY LOCAL COMMUNITY' !"

Secondly......
we need your support.

Support trading within your community - trade with or within
YOUR LOCAL COMMUNITY
and abide to a number of business principles - most importantly
"Good Governance"

Thirdly......
we need to know what product or service you have on offer.

The objective of the
I SUPPORT ‘COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT’ CAMPAIGN
at local level includes:

To identify PRODUCTS AND SERVICES on offer in a COMMUNITY – these products and/or services will be captured on a user friendly comprehensive database. This database will not only identify products and or service serving the community but also highlight products and service made in the community.

This information will be made available to the community (free) via various communication options available, this will include telephonic and mobile users via a central call-center; email; internet; the www (world wide web); community centers; shopping center info kiosk (touch screen technology); the press; local government offices and any other means of communicating available.

The collaboration of everyone is essential.
This will demand co-operation between Local Government; Business; Media; Civil Society; Business Associations; Community Leaders and the Community

Once collaboration has been secured, the establishment of a community driven Co-Operative, serving the community, needs to be formalized. This will result in the appointment of a Co-Operative Committee to effectively oversee the running of this Co-Operative

The Co-Operative Committee will be guided by a comprehensive Operations Manual providing support in securing suitable premises’ such as Community Centers (Local Government); the appointment of Co-Operative staff; securing initial funding for the Co-Operative to cover initial overheads and for the purchase of acceptable approved products (Formalize Informal Sector)

The Operations Manual will further assist with the promotion of the Co-Operative to product producers and service providers with the emphasis on LOCAL producers and LOCAL service providers and to promote the products and services to the local retailers and the community.

THE FOUNDATION FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF AFRICA
will assist the Co-Operative to identify products and/or services that may meet the requirements and quality for EXPORT
and to assist the Co-Operative in the export procedures!

This initiative will serve local communities throughout the continent!

SOUTH AFRICAN MUNICIPALITIES TO DEVELOP TURN AROUND STRATEGIES
By Nthambeleni GABARA - BuaNews - 22 October 2009

All 283 municipalities in the country (South Africa) are to develop their own specific municipal turnaround strategy aimed at improving service delivery at local level by March 2010.

In a declaration at the end of a two-day indaba on local government, municipalities said they supported the proposal to develop specific turnaround strategies and actively implement them by involving communities and a wide range of stakeholders.

According to the declaration, the provincial governments should assist the municipalities in developing their turnaround strategies which will fit within the framework of the national turnaround strategy to be developed by the national Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs.

The declaration comes after a report was released at the indaba, on Tuesday, indicating that there were genuine issues of corruption, fraud, governance, financial mismanagement and nepotism at local government level.

According to the report, there was an unclear allocation of roles and responsibilities of the municipal manager, mayor and the chief whip. It also showed that there were too many opportunities for fraud and corruption to take place because of weak accountability frameworks.

Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Sicelo Shiceka, on Tuesday, warned municipal mayors and managers to refrain from thinking that they are bigger than the people they serve.

He said the department would act decisively against inefficiency and any form of wrongdoing by municipal officials. “If people are not doing their work, it means there is no need for such people to occupy such positions in local government. You can’t be bigger than people that you serve.”

The minister urged those who were no longer in touch with their constituencies to go back to their bases.

Deputy Minister Yunus Carrim said he was encouraged by the outcomes of the indaba.

“I feel that such an indaba should be held annually, but future indabas should not just monitor government progress, but the progress of all us collectively. After all, we have a responsibility to implement the national framework of the department’s turn around strategy,” he said. - BuaNews
